CGN to the rescue!

January 10th, 2012 2 comments

I asked my provider about his plans regarding IPv6. Again! :-(

Here is a rough translation and summarization of the answer:

You don’t need IPv6! Nobody else uses IPv6! There are no IPv6 capable device! There is no IPv6 content! We will use NAT to hide about 3000 private IP addresses behind one public IP!

Yes! CGN (Carrier Grade NAT) is the solution! Problems with IPSEC, VOIP, FTP, Games, no more running services at home. If you want this you can pay extra for premium Internet. And about the 3000 private IPs behind one public IP take a look at this.

So I’m currently looking for a new provider.

Good Support

Some days ago I wrote about a company with realy bad support. I also mentioned that I needed support for another device, namely a Lenovo IdeaPAD with a broken display. The IdeaPAD as repaired in less than a week (including shipping) and they even replaced a small piece of rubber that has fallen the battery. And the best thing. Except for packaging I didn’t pay anything, not even shipping.
