I don’t care what it is and why I should use it. So please don’t get on my nerves. I won’t use it and I will not look at it.
Thanks

I know, I know. I promised a long time ago. But today I’ll start my tutorial on IPv6.
This first parts will cover the basics addressing. The next two articles will show you how to configuring IPv6 on a Linux host and how to configuring different services, like Apache, Bind, OpenSSH and Postfix.
On Sunday i ordered something and I just checked the shipping status. Looks like the day has more than 24hours.

Many company’s need their IT to in order to earn money and so it’s no wonder that the most important systems are redundant. There are also at least to different Internet and power connections (if possible entering the building on different sides and running to different exchange points.)
Designing such a network is an interesting but sometimes challenging task. Often important things are missed. Like a cold spare coffee maker (or better two). Almost all IT people I know need caffeine like they need air to breath.
(This article was written in a Starbucks. Coffee! Finaly!)
… recording concerts with the camera in your mobile phone and putting them up to youtube. Video quality sucks and the sound hurts.

Accidentally my MP3 player chose the right tracks today: After Jena, green hills, fog was emerging form the woods:
Just after Bamberg, dawn. Bright lite on the left hand side, dark sky an a rainbow on the left hand side.
About every second time I’ll dial via 3G / UMTS I’ll get a DNS server I’ll can’t use resolve names. So I opened a ticket with the providers Helldesk:
“About every 2nd time I dial in, I’m assigned a DNS Server that’s not working. Connecting to an IP address works, I can edit my settings an use a different (open) DNS server.”
Guess what. No they didn’t reply that I should use Windows and their custom dial-in tool. They didn’t fix the problem either. Here’s the answer:
“If another DNS server is working for you just use this other server. We can’t fix the problem on our side, it a problem with NAT / Shared IP.”
They even spelled my last name incorrectly. It’s Link, not Linke.
how little people know about one common things on the net: e-mail.
I’m stopped wondering about mail and firewall admins not knowing how to use telnet for some basic SMTP testing a long time ago. And I really should stop wondering about people not knowing how to handle mailing lists.
Hint: There is this thing called e-mail header which in most cases contains some information on how to unsubscribe from a list. It’s much easier than configuring a filter to bounce mails.
But hey. we’re living in times where people are using web forums and confuse group ware clients with mail user agents.
An uninstall program should remove all changes made by the install program. At least thats what one would thing.
A couple of days I installed some additional components of a firewall management software on a test server and the installer complained that the path variable was to log. After figuring out where to change environment variables under windows and deleting all entries which weren’t need anymore I was able to install the software.
This also solved a performance issue with the management software. It’s still slow but it’s at least twice as fast as before.
